Summary of events*
Our monthly Branch meeting was held at the Golden Lion Hotel. There was another good attendance and we had a busy meeting.
After covering general Branch business, the meeting was addressed by two of our elected representatives from Stirling Council on local matters.
Scott Farmer amongst other things, spoke on the ongoing situation regarding planning consent for the proposal to resume quarrying operations at Gillies Hill behind Cambusbarron.
Jim Thomson spoke on some recent activities carried out by Stirling council, such as the installation of a landscaped central verge on the Glasgow Road, and the spending for this “project”. There was also further discussion of matters arising from the Armed Forces day spending and it’s impact on the local economy.
The Branch was then addressed by our two guests, Steven Paterson, fresh from election as parliamentary candidate for the Stirling Constituency spoke on his campaign for the 2015 General election. Various roles are available in his campaign from ad hoc campaigning and canvassing, to administrative tasks at his campaign HQ. If you want to be involved and we would strongly encourage you, please contact the campaign, Steven is reachable via our contact page.
Finally we had a visit from local Member of the Scottish Parliament Bruce Crawford who spoke on matters arising from the outcome of the Smith Commission. The report was both informative and interesting and members were given the opportunity to ask questions on both Smith, and on other matters of local interest relating to Holyrood.
The next meeting will be the AGM to be held on Wednesday 11th February 2015, from 7:30pm to 9:00pm in the Younger Room, Golden Lion Hotel, 8-10 King Street, Stirling, FK8 1DQ.
Please could all members bring their membership cards to ensure access to this and future meetings.
