Marking the International Occasion
Trossachs and Teith SNP Councillor Fergus Wood hosted a St Andrew’s dinner at his farm in Kinlochard this year (Saturday 26th November), using the occasion to pay homage to Scotland and other nations from around the world who celebrate Andrew as their patron saint.
Chaired by Councillor Wood, guest speakers at the dinner included the Russian Consul General to Edinburgh Andrey Pritsepov, SNP MEP Alyn Smith, and Marilena Tsante and John Nikolaidis – owners of the Mediterranea restaurant in Stirling. All speakers gave an account of what St Andrew symbolises for an outward looking and internationalist Scotland.
Entertainment included songs and traditional Greek, Russian, and Scottish toasts.
Commenting after the event, Councillor Fergus Wood said:
“St Andrew’s Day is rightly a celebration of our nation’s place in the world as a cooperative partner with other nations and cultures. This dinner was a great chance to mark the strength of our diversity as an outward looking and internationalist society.
“I am grateful to those who came along and especially to our guest speakers, each of who spoke highly of the values we have in common across the world – a particularly important message in light of recent global events.”
