Stirling MP Steven Paterson has welcomed today’s announcement of a City Deal for Stirling. The Chancellor of the Exchequer committed the UK Government to a city deal for Stirling during his Autumn Statement earlier today.

The City Deal bid seeks investment that will improve local infrastructure and encourage business growth and jobs within Stirling. The hard work of Stirling Council Officers in producing a gold standard comprehensive business plan for Stirling has been highly commended by UK Government ministers, local representatives, and civil servants alike.

Mr Paterson led a delegation of local representatives in discussions in Whitehall in September this year, calling for the UK Government to commit to a city deal for Stirling.

Earlier this week, the Scottish Government announced its commitment to working with the UK Government in delivering City Deal investment for Stirling.

Phillip Hammond

Chancellor of the Exchequer Phillip Hammond announced negotiations were to start on concluding a city deal for Stirling during the Autumn Statement.

Commenting after the announcement, Steven Paterson said:

‘’I welcome the news that Stirling has won the case for a City Deal from the UK Government – something that I have been campaigning hard for. It is essential to encourage the kind of growth and jobs that we need to help the local Stirling economy in the face of the huge uncertainty created by Brexit.

‘’I look forward to looking at the details of this announcement and working together with all agencies and partners involved to create the environment where we can make this the success story that Stirling deserves.’’

 Stirling MSP Bruce Crawford added:

“I am pleased that the Westminster Government has joined with the Scottish Government in committing to deliver the transformative proposals outlined in the business plan for a City Region Deal. There is now the capacity to significantly improve the opportunities that the local area has to offer. By investing in making Stirling the Digital Hub of Scotland and developing our local assets, we can send out a message that Stirling is very much open for business.”
