Steven Paterson MP, SNP representative for Stirling which encompasses the area of Gillies Hill behind Cambusbarron Village, brought up the ongoing issue of proposals to restart quarrying on the hill that have been fiercely opposed by the local community for some years, in the House of Commons today.
The video of Steven’s speech can be seen below.
Steven has been a prominent supporter of the Save Gillies Hill Campaign both during his time while elected to Stirling Council and since becoming an MP.
In his speech in the Backbench Business debate Steven expressed frustration at the time being taken by Stirling Council in exploring and reporting on options under UK legislation to reserve the Gillies Hill as a local nature reserve. The matter has taken so long to be resolved that it has been pushed to the Scottish Parliament where it is to be considered under devolved planning legislation.
