Discover Dunblane has launched their drive for European Mobility Week. Locals and visitors alike will have noticed golden bikes around Dunblane – promoting a cycle event on Sunday 25th September.
The cycle event through Dunblane will encourage people to use their bikes instead of cars in order to address the issue of traffic, congestion, parking availability, and environmental damage – as well as promoting an active healthy lifestyle.
Discover Dunblane Project Manager, Scott Abercrombie said:
“European Mobility Week is the perfect opportunity for Discover Dunblane to ask the residents and businesses of the town to think again above how their journeys are made. Whether on foot or bike, we want to encourage the whole community to look at the health and economic benefits of active and sustainable travel.
“With the Rio Olympics in full swing, and of course our local success last weekend, our “Going for Gold” theme is designed to inspire and support not only our young people and families, but every person to walk, cycle and run. Our two-week engagement programme will run from 12-25 September and will culminate in a whole community active fun day taking place on Sunday 25 September. More information can be found on our website at: www.discoverdunblane.co.uk”
Supporting the project, local MP Steven Paterson said:
“The work that Scott and his team have undertaken is fantastic in that it has clearly engaged the local community in conversations about ditching the car for a cleaner, healthier travel – a number of locals and visitors stopped by to ask about the bikes and to take pictures with them.
“I thoroughly recommend people of all ages getting their bikes out and getting involved with this great local event – and, of course, don’t forget to tweet photos of Dunblane’s golden bikes to spread the word!”
