Local Stirling MP, Steven Paterson, will be standing for re-election to Westminster in the forthcoming General Election on June 8th, the Scottish National Party confirmed on Saturday.
From Cambusbarron, Mr Paterson attended Stirling High School as well as the University of Stirling and has worked in the local tourism sector. He was elected to represent the Stirling East Ward on Stirling Council in 2007 before being elected to Westminster in 2015 with a majority of 10,480.
Commenting, Steven Paterson said:
“I am delighted and honoured to have been formally selected to stand as the SNP candidate for the Stirling Constituency to which I belong at the forthcoming General Election.
“It has been a privilege to represent this magnificent constituency at Westminster over the past two years, being part of the SNP team that has provided the only credible opposition to the right wing Tory government and standing up for Scotland.
“This election presents a clear choice to voters between the Tory right-wing, hard-Brexit cliff edge Theresa May is marching us towards, or the SNP’s positive, outward-looking vision for Scotland. Now more than ever, Scotland needs representatives who will always stand up for our interests and not back down when faced with an increasingly isolationist UK Government.
“I look forward to taking my positive case for Stirling to the people who live here over the next few weeks.”
