Murray Brothers Legacy ‘Richly Deserved After Years of Dedication’
SNP MP Steven Paterson has said that Andy and Jamie Murray “richly deserve” a legacy after years of “dedication and hard work” in tennis.
Steven Paterson, the SNP MP for Stirling, made the comments as he led an adjournment debate in the House of Commons on the sporting legacy of the brothers.
The debate followed a meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Scottish Sports, at which Gavin Newlands MP, the SNP Sports spokesperson at Westminster welcomed Judy Murray.
Steven Paterson MP commented :
“I wanted to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the years of dedication and hard work both Andy and his brother Jamie have been through to get them to the absolute peak of their sport – and to acknowledge that they richly deserve a proper legacy.
“Seeing the success of Andy and other Scottish tennis stars will surely inspire many youngsters to try the sport. We need to have the appropriate funding and facilities in place to give them the opportunity to get involved with tennis and make sure that we’ll find the tennis stars of tomorrow.
“Scottish Tennis is currently doing better than ever with Scottish players holding three number 1 spots in world rankings, and we need to ensure that Scottish tennis continues to thrive.
“Scotland has a rich tradition in the field of sporting achievements and many sporting heroes – and there is no doubt that Andy and Jamie Murray are up there with some of the greats.’’
