Stirling’s MP, Steven Paterson, has written to the Chief Executive of Stirling Council, calling for assurances that safety inspections will be carried out in the aftermath of a number of PFI-built schools in Edinburgh that have been closed due to serious safety concerns.
Mr Paterson’s call comes after the Scottish Government wrote to all of Scotland’s 32 local authorities requesting that necessary safety checks be carried out on their own estate as soon as possible.
Commenting, Steven Paterson said:
“The severity of the situation found in a number of Edinburgh schools is alarming and the Scottish Government is right to call on all local authorities to ensure the safety of their pupils and staff.
“Our young people have the right to a safe and secure education and school staff should expect their place of work to be of a high standard. That is why I have written to Stirling Council’s Chief Executive as it is vital that relevant school safety checks are carried out as a matter of urgency.”
