Babcock’s Hand Forced By Ministry Of Defence On Relocation And Threat To Local Jobs

Bruce Crawford voiced concern

It has been revealed that the decision by the Ministry of Defence to close the Forthside Barracks by 2022 has led to Babcock’s move to bring forward their plans to relocate the DSG operation in Stirling.
Stirling’s MSP Bruce Crawford has held urgent talks with representatives of Babcock International over these proposals – where the UK Government’s 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR) was discussed.

Over 240 Jobs On The Line As Ministry Of Defence Set To Close Stirling City Barracks

Steven Paterson MP

The Defence Secretary, Michael Fallon MP, has announced that Forthside barracks in Stirling are set to close alongside 19% of the Ministry of Defence estate in Scotland.

In response to the announcement, Stirling MP and SNP Defence Policy Team member Steven Paterson asked the Defence Secretary:

“Some 240 jobs are associated with the Forthside barracks in Stirling, which the Secretary of State mentioned a moment ago. That makes it an important employer and one of the few operational elements of the armed forces still associated with Stirling, particularly since the appalling treatment of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, which was mentioned a few moments ago, disgracefully, by Michael Gove. How many jobs will remain in Stirling following the move, and how many, in total, of the jobs that are there just now will be retained?”

Mr Fallon was unable to give a definitive answer.
