Steven Paterson raised issue of Doping in Sport with PM

The Prime Minister agreed that this issue is right to be raised and highlighted that there will be a summit that looks into this issue in May. He also hinted that criminalising doping should be looked into by Parliament.

Commenting, Steven Paterson said:

“Stirling University, which is in my constituency, is recognised as Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence, however, unfortunately international professional sport has been increasingly tainted by a widespread scandal involving performance enhancing drugs.

“Young people look up to professional athletes as inspiring examples and I fear that damaging the reputation of professional sport will have a negative impact on future generations participating in sporting activities.

“I am glad that this is an issue that the Prime Minister takes seriously and I look forward to ways in which we can effectively combat doping in sport.”
