First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said SNP MPs will use their influence to put heart into Westminster economic policy.
Last week, the First Minister set out a plan to tackle the deficit by putting fairness at the centre of economic growth. The plan provides an alternative to Westminster’s unfair austerity agenda –which both Labour and the Tories are committed to continuing into the next Parliament.
A team of SNP MPs holding the balance of power at Westminster would argue for a more moderate and balanced approach to deficit reduction across the UK – focusing on tackling inequality and promoting social justice.
SNP candidate for Stirling Steven Paterson welcomed the First Minister’s speech . He said ‘It is critical that Scotland sends a large group of SNP MPs to make sure that the pre – referendum vow is delivered. This will give the Scotland a powerhouse parliament with job-creating powers and the ability to create fairer welfare policies. Only by returning SNP MPs in large numbers can we make the Westminster establishment rethink its failed and damaging austerity agenda.’
