City of Stirling SNP branch hosted a hustings event on Friday (2nd Sept) in the lead up to the forthcoming election to appoint the next Depute Leader of the Party. Party members will be able to vote for their preferred candidates when ballots open at the end of this month.
The four candidates for Depute Leadership are:
- Councillor Christopher McEleny – Inverclyde Council
- Angus Robertson MP – Member of Parliament for Moray and Leader of the SNP Westminster Group.
- Tommy Sheppard MP – Member of Parliament for Edinburgh East and the SNP Spokesperson on the Cabinet Office.
- Alyn Smith MEP – Member of the European Parliament for Scotland and co-author of the recent Wee BLEU Book ahead of the EU Referendum.
Robertson, Sheppard, and Smith attended the Stirling hustings at the Golden Lion Hotel and took questions from SNP members.
Commenting on the evening, a Stirling SNP spokesperson said:
“Friday’s debate gave around 200 SNP members the chance to put their questions to Depute Leader candidates ahead of ballots being sent out in a few weeks.
“Earlier on the same day, Stirling also hosted Nicola Sturgeon’s announcement that the SNP is now embarking on a consultation exercise on Scotland’s future now that we are faces with the disappointing and worrying result of the EU Referendum. The next Depute Leader will be working the First Minister on our country’s next chapter as well as working to achieve a majority support for independence.”
