NEW STIRLING MP TO BE SWORN IN TO COMMONS THIS WEEK
Newly-elected Stirling MP Alyn Smith went to Westminster this week, ahead of what is set to be a busy first sitting in the House of Commons.
This week will see:
– Election of the Speaker of the House.
– Formal State Opening of Parliament.
– Swearing in of new MPs to the Commons.
– Potential return of the UK Government’s Brexit Bill.
Mr Smith joins 46 other SNP MPs in the House of Commons.
Commenting, he said:
“I was elected in the early hours of Friday morning and travelled to London to be at my new place of work first thing on Monday.
“There’s a lot to get through this week, including the possibility of defending Scotland’s position on our place in the European Union.
“An MP’s time must be carefully balanced between work in Parliament and in the constituency. I am here to represent the interests of the people of the Stirling area, and meeting with local people, organisations and businesses will be an important part of my role as the local MP.“
