Stirling MP Alyn Smith is encouraging local people to volunteer where they can in order to help with the updated advice on social distancing and self-isolation amid the spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus.
A number of local organisations are in need of volunteer help as demand is set to potentially increase for some services, whilst government advice has meant that some volunteers have had to stand down temporarily.
In a statement published on Facebook, Stirling Food Train have said that they have temporarily lost a number of their volunteers, who are in the over-70 age group. People can get in touch with the Stirling Food Train to find out more about volunteering by calling: 01786 450 536.
The Food Train is a charity organisation that delivers grocery shopping to older people in the area.
In a statement, Trossachs Search and Rescue have said that, whilst they cannot currently take on additional volunteers, they welcome any cash donations from people to help them continue much of the additional work required during this period. People can donate by visiting www.justgiving.com/tsart.

“There’s a real sense of communities coming together to help each other deal with this national emergency. I’ve been in touch with a number of organisations and community councils who are doing fantastic work in pulling resources and support networks together to help people who are most in need at this time.
“The advice that over-70s should take extra precaution as this virus spreads has meant that many of those who volunteer for organisations like the Food Train are not currently able to do so. My office has been in touch with the management of the Food Train, who have said that they would be happy to look at temporary volunteer posts to help them through this period.
“Organisations like Trossachs Search and Rescue aren’t currently looking for volunteers, but will always benefit from the kind donations of local people – to please do consider donating and sharing their Just Giving link on your social media.”
