Pensioners Remain Exposed to Soaring Energy Costs
Increasing levels of inflation and rising bills have left many households across Stirling reeling from high costs for food, fuel and energy.
Local MP Alyn Smith is urging eligible pensioners in the Stirling area to make sure they take up their pension credit entitlement, which could help with further cost of living pressures.
This is extra money to assist with living costs if the applicant is over State Pension age and on a low income. Pension credit can also assist with housing costs such as ground rent or service charges.
It is easy to apply online, via the phone or by post. Applicants can begin their application 4 months before they reach pensionable age and apply anytime afterwards. However, an application can only be backdated 3 months, so it is best to apply early.

‘The Tory cost of living crisis continues, with households across Stirling set to be slammed by the National Insurance hike, spiralling energy bills and increases in food prices. Pensioners in particular remain vulnerable to these economic shocks, so I’m urging those eligible to ensure they’re receiving their full entitlements.
‘Pensioner poverty remains a real issue across the country, and pension credit can make all the difference in helping deal with these pressures. I implore families and friends across Stirling to check, to make sure their loved ones are getting the support they deserve.’
