‘The Bank Dunblane’ Community Project to Build on Local Talents
Local MP Alyn Smith has offered his backing to a Dunblane community project, aiming to transform a disused bank building into the heart of the community.
Also known locally as ‘The Old Bank of Scotland Building’, the building is Category B listed and was built in 1835, serving as a bank until its controversial closure in July 2022. Bought by a local charity in 2023, funding is currently being sought to transfer the building to a community-owned member organisation.
Current proposals envisage a multi-functional, community owned, arts and hospitality venue to augment amenities in Dunblane for residents and visitors alike.

‘Dunblane is a fantastic place to live, work, study and visit, and yet residents and businesses have not remained immune from the pressures facing high streets and city centres across these islands.
‘It’s really heartening to see the community come together and take forward a positive vision for the future of their high street. I have no doubt The Bank project will be the jewel in the crown of Dunblane’s success once completed.
‘I hope the Community Ownership Fund will consider their application carefully, and agree that supporting the project will help unlock a vibrant community space at the very heart of one of Stirling’s proudest communities.’

‘Over the last 6 months we’ve been engaging with our local community, gathering their ideas and hearing about what they would like to see in their town centre. We’re really excited to now be moving into the next phase of the project applying for funding, finishing the design and submitting planning permission.
‘It’s great to have Alyn’s support, and we’re really looking forward to working with him and our other local politicians, existing local businesses, community groups and interested parties to make The Bank a reality.’
