Stirling MP Praises Venue of the Year Award for Tolbooth

Beloved Arts Venue ‘Jewel in Crown’ of Stirling Culture Scene

Local MP Alyn Smith has praised Tolbooth Stirling for their continuing contribution to Stirling’s arts and culture scene, as the team won the Venue of the Year award at the annual MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards.

The venue, run by Stirling Council, was crowned the best place for traditional Scottish music across the country by members of the public.

As a complex of buildings dating from the seventeenth century onwards, the Old Tolbooth in Stirling has served various purposes across the years as a town hall, a jail and a courthouse. A process of internal renovations to transform the space into an arts and music venue began in 1997, concluding in 2006 at a cost of £4.1 million.
