MSP for Stirling Evelyn Tweed is encouraging more people in Stirling to sign up for an initiative which connects young people with workplace opportunities.
More than 16,000 young people across Scotland have been offered workplace opportunities through the Young Person’s Guarantee.
Over 600 employers have signed up to the initiative which aims to connect 16-24-year-olds with an apprenticeship, work experience, volunteering, internships, enterprise opportunities and mentoring.
The number of young people in work increased by more than 15,000 last year and Scotland’s youth employment rate is higher than the UK-wide figure.
Evelyn Tweed, SNP MSP for Stirling said; “Investing in young people is a clear priority for this Scottish Government, and I’m pleased that employers are signing up to this initiative to support and give opportunities to the younger generation.
“With many young people finishing school this year and embarking upon the next chapter of their lives, opportunities like The Young Person’s Guarantee are really worth exploring. It could be the first step in a future career, or simply an opportunity to learn new skills and gain valuable experience.
“£45 million is being invested in this initiative in 2022-23 as part of the ongoing commitment to supporting young people in Scotland and I encourage employers in Stirling to take a look online at the opportunities it offers. This is a brilliant initiative which is connecting thousands of bright young people with businesses and projects across Scotland.
“As we approach exam results day for many, its vitally important that we communicate to young people that although their futures may at times seem uncertain, opportunities and support is out there.”
