Stirling MSP Evelyn Tweed has urged visiting groups and local residents to stay safe and cautious whilst enjoying themselves this summer, especially around bodies of water, as tragic news emerges of several recent drowning incidents.
Those visiting popular tourist spots should take precautions and remain alert to the dangers wild swimming can pose. Reservoirs, lochs, fast moving rivers and rapids all pose extreme risks, as obstacles can be obscured and extremely cold temperatures remain – even in the blistering heat.

‘The tragic news from over the weekend is simply heart-breaking, and my deepest condolences go out to the friends, families and loved ones of those who have passed away.
‘Wild swimming poses many risks. Despite recent heat waves, large bodies of water can remain extremely cold, and can induce shock in swimmers. There can also be hidden objects in the water, or undercurrents you can’t see from the surface that may sap your stamina and strength.
‘I urge visitors to remain vigilant and take precautions, and always respect the dangers wild swimming can present.’
